Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a system of complementary medicine that
involves pricking the skin or tissues with needles. It is used to relive alleviate
pain and to treat various physical, mental, and emotional conditions.
Originating in ancient China, acupuncture is now widely practiced in the whole
world.
Duties and Responsibilities:
acupuncture professionals are trained to treat the entire body of an individual
rather than the specific illness or condition that he/her might has. They take
into account a patient's physical, mental and emotional condition in order to
determine the proper course of treatment for the patient. In addition to
providing acupuncture therapy, practitioners help their patients achieve
relaxation, balance, and wellness in their everyday lives.
Salary: starting salary averages $49,844
"Salaries after 10
years of practice peak at $133,700
annually.”
Educational Requirements
Most licensed acupuncturists hold master's degrees or
post-baccalaureate certificates from schools accredited by the Accreditation
Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine . As the
Council of Colleges of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine explains, most
programs require 1,500-2,000 hours of acupuncture training and take 3-4 years
to complete . Graduates must pass the certification exam
offered by NCCAOM and fulfill any additional state licensing requirements.
Reflection: Do you think you would like to be one? Why? Why not?
I think I would like
to be one because is a career that involves pinching people with needles to relive
tension in the body and I really found this interesting; how a simple pinch can
relive all the stress/pain on the human body without using any medicines.
